Currently, the best way to get around the Faroe Islands is by rental car. Public transportation is not as frequent in the Faroes as other places in the Nordics due to the sparse population. The Faroe Islands has a total of 18 islands: Streymoy, Eysturoy, Vagar, Kalsoy, Kunoy, Vidoy, Bordoy, Suduroy, Sandoy, Litla Dimun, Stora Dimun, Svinoy, Mykines, Skuvoy, Nolsoy, Fugloy, Hestur, and Koltur. Most residents reside on Streymoy with the second most living on Streymoy. The Vagar Airport is located on the island of the same name.

The capital city of the Faroe Islands is the city of Torshavn, located on Streymoy. The city has 13,000 residents and the largest port in the Faroe Islands. Torshavn is extremely colorful and one of the most charming cities in the Nordics.
How do you get to the Faroe Islands?
There are two ways to get to the Faroe Islands: by ferry or by airplane. There are ferries heading to Torshavn (and further onward to Iceland and Denmark) regularly. Flying to the Faroe Islands is the best way to get there. There are flights currently with two airlines: Atlantic Airways and SAS.
What is the currency of the Faroe Islands?
The currency of the Faroe Islands are the Danish krone and the Faroese krona. However, DKK is what you will likely end up with. Almost everywhere takes credit cards, including the ferries.
